Rahotu
Rahotu is a small but active rural township serving the surrounding farming community on Taranaki’s western coast. Located along Surf Highway 45, it provides a useful hub for locals and those travelling through the area.
Despite its size, Rāhotu offers a good range of everyday amenities, including a Four Square, petrol station, local tavern and sports hub. The township is also home to a co-educational primary school catering for Years 1–8.
History: Established in 1886.
The anchor of the ship Harriet, wrecked nearby in 1834, is mounted outside the hotel. The military expedition to rescue crew members and the owner’s wife, Betty Guard, resulted in the first conflict between Māori and British troops.
