Kaponga

The township is home to a Four Square supermarket, dairy, hotel, veterinary and rural services, LibraryPlus and a local primary school catering for Years 1–8. A range of other businesses operate throughout the surrounding rural area, many supporting the region’s agricultural sector.

One of Kaponga’s standout attractions is Hollard Gardens, a nationally significant garden featuring extensive landscaped grounds, picnic areas, a children’s playground, public facilities and free barbecues.

Kaponga also has a proud connection to Taranaki’s Swiss settler heritage, which remains an important part of the community today. The local Swiss Club continues to celebrate this heritage through social and cultural activities, including its longstanding annual picnic, a tradition dating back to 1953 and attracting hundreds of people.

History: Kaponga is a small town in the southern part of Taranaki it is known as “The Gateway to Dawson’s Falls” on Taranaki Maunga (Mount Taranaki).
